While my music fits very squarely in a dark but quirky space, I don’t necessarily walk around bumping moody tunes all day long. And while I may take some inspiration from these songs, I really use them to backdrop the different scenes of my mundane, daily life. So here are the top songs I am listening to.
Admissions by NBDY
Since this is my first one of these that I am doing, it was actually genuinely difficult to narrow this list down to 3, but this song is definitely at the top of the list. The undertow of the bass drives this track forward in a way that makes you want to instantaneously close your eyes and start bobbing your head. Not to mention, I always love lyrics that make you do a double take at your imaginary camera and drop your jaw at the audacity of the message.
Like Home by JOY.
I stumbled on “Waterfalls” by JOY. a couple of years ago and I am surprised at how much more great music of hers I keep discovering the further I go back. It’s never ending. It gives me hope that my own errant tracks from years ago will eventually get discovered by a future fan digging deep in to my catalog. Anyways, the JOY. tracks that I enjoy (no pun) are her R&B bangers with a sprinkle of the ambient, atmospheric sounds she has on her tracks. And this one is no different.
Shivers by Nonso Amadi & Tamera
I have absolutely been riding the afro-beats wave since the global surge began a few years ago. I can’t get enough of them. This Afro-pop song is a blend of the afro-beats beat and some dreamy R&B. And Tamera is absolutely incredible, laying down lyrics in a cadence that flows like a river of gold. As a woman, this song is irresistible, with the lyrics feeling as though the vocalist is singing his compliments directly to me.
I pride myself on my playlist picks. But if you would like to check my music out, here is my latest single. Be warned, I don’t make music fit for revelry. My dark pop tracks are emotional and, at times, cinematic. Enjoy!
